Why study yoga with me?

My Yoga Journey

I began my yoga journey as a teenager struggling with mental health. Resistant to the benefits, it wasn't until college that I seriously started to study yoga. I was lucky to attend a school nestled in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado. My first yoga mentor, Deb Buck (Yoga Durango Co-owner), showed me that yoga is about so much more than strength and flexibility. She guided me towards using Hatha yoga as a tool to regulate the nervous system. I studied at Yoga Durango for 5+ years, attending several immersions and retreats with renowned practitioners. I am now an experienced teacher with over 1000 hours of teaching experience.

My speciaties include yin yoga, yoga for seniors, yoga for chronic pain, yoga with children/adolescence, and yoga for stress relief. Most recently, I have been deepening my yin yoga and functional yoga studies with teacher Devi Daly.  I currently teach yoga in a behavioral health hospital, at several yoga studios in the Denver Metro Area, and at elementary schools. Clearly, I have a deep passion for sharing yoga with others from all walks of life. I am in my second year of my Masters program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the goal to be able to integrate yoga and psychology as a career that will benefit others for the rest of my life.

Yoga is for EVERYONE

I truly believe yoga is for everyone. Regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, religious beliefs, or physical abilities, we will find a yoga pose for YOU. "Not every yoga pose is for everyone but there is a yoga pose for everyone." After all, yoga postures are such a small part of what makes up yoga. Yoga is a way of being in the world much more than it is a physical performance.

Radical Acceptance

In my classes you are:

  • 1. Safe
  • 2. Supported
  • 3. Free to show up as you are and not be questioned.

Sound Healing

I am a trained vocalist and musician with 15+ years of experience. Since the pandemic, I have enjoyed offering sound healing baths for larger groups of people. I have shared my voice and bowls at bachelorette parties, yoga studios, and more recently libraries.  I have partnered with Douglas County Libraries offering baths every few months at different libraries in the Denver Metro area. I love offering healing sounds to the broader community. These events are free and open to the public. More information on these events can be found on the home page.

Video

This is a song Ellie wrote years back. The lyrics and the message of the song align with her reasons for practicing yoga and speak to the path she has been on as an artist, teacher, and human.

Ellie is no longer apart of a band, and moved to Denver shortly after this album was recorded to further pursue a career as a therapist. However, Ellie still shares her voice during her sound healing community events and in her weekly yoga classes.
